Once injected into the muscles, Botox® or Xeomin® begin to work. After injection, they may show the final results for seven to fourteen days.

The number of injections you will need will depend on the type of neurotoxin used and your individual needs.

  • 1 week before the treatment: You should avoid taking blood thinners such as Aspirin, NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, Aleve, Vioxx), St. John’s Wort, Fish Oil, Ginseng, Gingko, Biloba, and Vitamin E supplements (these may cause bleeding and bruising at the injection site). Please let us know if you are taking Coumadin or Plavix.
  • Avoid alcoholic beverages 24 hours before treatment.
  • Schedule your neurotoxin treatment at least 2 weeks before a vacation or special event.
  • Let us know if anything has changed in your medical history since your last appointment.
  • If you have previously suffered from cold sores, you may need medications to prevent their recurrence.
  • Arnica Montana and Bromelain tablets may help prevent bruising and swelling. Refer to the manufacturer’s instructions or call our office for instructions.
  • For 1 week after treatment: Prevent taking blood thinners, as listed above.
  • Avoid massaging the treated area.
  • Repeated treatments will produce the best results for wrinkle removal.
  • Avoid lying down for a minimum of 4 hours and physical exercise for at least 24 hours after treatment.
  • Exercising the area of the treatment is recommended (Frown/smile for 1 hour).
  • It may take 3-10 days for treatment effects to appear. Benefits may last for three to six months.

Peeling generally lasts from three to five days, depending on the type of peel. In order to enhance healing and results, it is important to use a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. After the peel, you can resume normal activity, but heavy exercise and sweating should be avoided for two to three days.

This peel’s effects can last up to ten years, so it’s done only once. You won’t need repeated treatments.

  • Do not expose yourself to the sun or use tanning beds two weeks before your treatment.
  • In order to achieve optimal results, it is recommended that you pretreatment with Retin-A, Retinol, or another retinoid product for a minimum of two weeks prior (the longer, the better). To minimize burning and stinging, these medications should be stopped 2-3 days before your peel.
  • It is recommended to avoid waxing and/or chemical depilatories for one to two weeks before getting a peel. Threading and shaving are allowed as long as there is no irritation to the skin.
  • For sun protection right after your peel, bring a wide-brimmed hat or use an umbrella.
  • During your procedure, wear a comfortable, washable top that does not have a high neckline.
  • There may be mild redness in the area for a few hours to two days, similar to a mild sunburn. Each person will have a different experience. After treatment, you should see some flaking within two or three days. Flaking can last for up to five or six days. There will be only light to medium exfoliation with all PCA Peels.
  • For at least two weeks afterward, wear sunscreen during daylight hours. Wear sunscreen even if you’re staying indoors since ultraviolet radiation can penetrate windows and fluorescent lights. Even a small amount of sunlight can cause brown discolored patches on the skin.
  • Use a mild cleanser (such as Cetaphil or Dove) to wash your face twice daily.
  • Apply a mild, thick moisturizing cream at least twice daily. It may be applied more frequently if you wish. CeraVe Healing ointment or Aquaphor ointment can be used on extremely dry patches. You can purchase them at most drugstores over the counter.
  • During the healing process, do not pick or peel at the skin. This could cause excessive redness or scarring. Eventually, the skin will slough off.
  • Makeup can be applied if desired, although this may exaggerate the peeling effect. To remove makeup, do not scrub it off. The sloughing will remove it from some dried skin patches.
  • Do not use glycolic washes, Retin-A, Clarisonic, or other anti-aging products until your skin fully recovers.

After a single treatment, patients should notice a noticeable difference in their appearance.

The number of Dermal Filler injections you will need will depend on the type of filler that is used, the area, and how your body responds to it.

  • One week before the treatment: You should avoid taking blood thinners such as Aspirin, NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, Aleve, Vioxx), St.
  • Schedule your dermal filler treatment at least two weeks prior to a vacation or special event.
  • Start taking Arnica 2 days before injections to help with bruising and swelling.
  • The treated area should not be moved or massaged unless instructed by your provider.
  • For 24 hours, refrain from strenuous exercise.
  • For 72 hours, avoid excessive sun or heat.
  • To prevent swelling, avoid drinking too much alcohol or eating too much salt.
  • Apply a cool compress for 15 minutes every hour if you have swelling.
  • Use Tylenol for discomfort.
  • Whenever possible, sleep face up and slightly elevated if you experience swelling.

You will see some improvements in your skin as soon as your first treatment session is completed. The skin will appear more radiant and brighter. It will take 24 hours for your skin to relax after the treatment, and it will appear as though it has been rejuvenated

You can expect to see results from treatments that exfoliate your skin for up to a month, or sometimes even longer, depending on how your skin looks.

  • Retin-A or other exfoliating creams should not be used 24 to 72 hours (1 to 3 days) before your treatment.
  • For at least a week before treatment, avoid sun tanning and tanning creams/sprays.
  • You must NOT have recently used Accutane or had laser surgery.
  • Prior to undergoing dermaplane, candidates who have recently undergone a chemical peel or other skin treatments, such as a collagen injection, should wait two to three weeks.
  • For a few weeks before dermaplane treatment, prospective patients should refrain from waxing or tanning the skin.
  • Prep your face and neck for each treatment by washing with a non-oily, non-soap based cleanser.

Following these post-procedure instructions will maximize Dermaplane recovery time and results:

  • Make sure the new skin is kept clean and moisturized.
  • If necessary, apply anti-inflammatory creams or cold compresses.
  • Make sure you use a gentle cleanser.
  • Avoid scratching or picking the treated areas.
  • For one week, do not use harsh chemicals on the treated skin, rub it, or tan it.
  • There may be some peeling in the treated areas, but moisturizer should minimize it.
  • Keep out of the sun for at least 7 days after the Dermaplane treatment to prevent UV rays from damaging your skin and slowing down the healing process.
  • Sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or above should be used by patients who cannot avoid exposure to the sun.
  • For 24-48 hours after treatment, avoid glycolic, alpha hydroxy, beta hydroxy, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, and topical acne treatments.
  • When you have completed your last dermaplane treatment, or as instructed by your technician, you can resume the use of prescription retinol products (Retin A, Renova, Tretinoin, Avita, Alustra or other brands of Tretinoin). Adapalene, Avage, Differin, Tazorac, Tazarotene are also prescription retinoid products.
